Dr. Kay M. Poston joined the FMU faculty as Professor of Accounting in 2012, Prior to that time, she served on the faculties of the University of Indianapolis, South University, Newberry College, Arizona State University-West, University of Missouri-Columbia and Drexel University. She received her undergraduate degree in English and her master’s and doctoral degrees in accounting from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville and is an inactive Certified Public Accountant in the State of Missouri.

Dr. Poston’s research interests are broadly spread throughout the various sub-disciplines of accounting, with a primary emphasis in the area of cost management. She is recognized as a scholar in the area of quality cost management and control, having received several externally-funded research grants to study in the area. Most recently, her co-authored paper applying quality cost methodology to the data privacy area appeared in Strategic Finance, a premier publication of the Institute of Management Accountants directed toward practicing cost management professionals. Her other writings have appeared in numerous journals, including Journal of Financial Education, Business Review, Cambridge, Advances in Management Accounting, Revue Sciences de Gestion – Management Sciences – Ciencias de Gestion, The Journal of Cost Management, CIM Review, Journal of Information Systems, and Journal of Cost Analysis. She is a frequent presenter at national and regional meetings of various professional organizations, having received a “Best Paper” award at the Midwest Regional Meeting of the American Accounting Association (AAA) and having received the Bea Sanders/AICPA Teaching Innovation Award for a presentation she made at one of the AAA’s Annual Meetings. Dr. Poston is the former editor of Advances in Management Accounting, and has served on the editorial boards of Advances in Accounting and Journal of Operations Management.
